When you hear “four letter word”, I’m pretty sure I can imagine what comes to mind. But, I’m not talking about bad words, I’m talking about the word ‘blog’. Maybe to some that word is a curse but it doesn’t have to be. With a little bit of organization and persistence you can blog for your business.

Consider that blogging is providing value. It is your way of saying “Hey, I feel your pain and I know how to help.” Think about the content you read online. A lot of it isn’t worth much, but then a lot of it is. Words are powerful.

But, most people get stuck. Either they don’t write at all because of some excuse (how many of you have said to yourself “I’m a bad writer…I never learned how to write?”) or they are paralyzed and don’t know where to begin. That’s what I’m going to help you with in my first blog post about blogging. We’re going to get unstuck together.

Step 1: Take the plunge and just write

Oh, my. But what will I write about?

So there are a number of tools that can help you pick a topic and title, but I’m not going to tell you about those. I’m going to tell you to write something your visitors want to read. And that’s easy to figure out because it will be something you would want to read too. That’s it. Do it.

Case in point: Clients ask me so many questions about this topic I feel compelled to write about it once and for all. (OK, this probably won’t be the only post you read about blogging, but I wanted to be emphatic.) You see, now I am officially unstuck.

Step 2: Write some more and Proofread

Seriously, write at least 500 words and read what you wrote or have someone else proofread.

Step 3: Write a compelling title

Write the title so your reader wants to read and Google thinks it’s great. This article has some great examples of how to write good headlines.

Step 4 is where I may lose you, but please don’t be scared. You can do this.

Step 4: Start collecting emails

There are plenty of WordPress plugins that will do this for you. If you’re saying “What’s a plugin?” That’s ok. We can help. That’s what we’re here for.

In the meantime, here’s a great infographic on why you should starting blogging:
